As summer approaches it’s great to come up with refreshing ways to stay hydrated and incorporate help: clear skin into your favourite infused waters. We’ve talked at length previously about the importance of staying hydrated to aid your skin and avoid skin problems.

Here’s another great infused water recipe to help you stay hydrated all summer long.

Watermelon and Basil Infused Water

What You’ll Need

2 large slices of melon, cut into quarter chunks

1 fresh sprig of Basil

Filtered water

1 sachet of help: clear skin

What To Do

Remove any melon seeds and cut the slices into quarter chunks

Chop the basil, but not finely and leave on the sprig

Fill your jug with filtered water and ice

Add the melon and basil

Leave to infuse for a couple of hours in the fridge

When you’re ready to serve pour in a sachet of help: clear skin into your filled glass

Why It’s Good For You

Watermelon is about 92% water. Each juicy quarter chunk has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. There’s even a modest amount of potassium.

Basil is an excellent source of vitamin K and manganese; a very good source of copper, vitamin A (in the form of carotenoids such as beta-carotene), and vitamin C; and a good source of calcium, iron, folate, magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids.

Vitamin A supports your skin health, bone growth, aids your immune system and is essential for reproduction. The family of B vitamins, which are also known as B complex vitamins, plays an important role in converting food into energy and helping the body metabolize fats and proteins. The B vitamins are also important for healthy hair, skin, liver, and eyes. Vitamin B6, or pyridoxine, is one in this group of eight vitamins. B6 is important for cardiovascular, digestive, immune, muscular, and nervous system function.

Vitamin C, also known as Ascorbic Acid include the prevention and treatment of scurvy, treatment of the common cold, boosting the immune system, lowering hyper tension, treatment of lead toxicity, curing cataracts, treatment of cancer, combating stroke, maintain elasticity of the skin, healing wounds, and controlling the symptoms of asthma.

What help: clear skin does for you

During the summer months you may find that you sweat more which can lead to skin irritations, spots and acne. We’ve talked before about ways to stop your sweating leading to breakouts. As the temperature rises you will dehydrate quick, and so will your skin. It’s important to keep your water intake high and stay hydrated. By adding a daily sachet of help: clear skin to your water you will also be helping to get rid of acne.

help: clear skin contains PravENAC™, our proprietary formula incorporating a clinically proven bioactive protein rich in lactoferrin. Lactoferrin has been shown to reduce the development of the bacteria responsible for many skin conditions such as acne, spots, blackheads and whiteheads due to its anti-microbial effects.

help: clear skin is suitable for vegetarians, diabetics and anyone lactose intolerant and is gluten free. Each 3.5g skin food supplement sachet contains 200mg of lactoferrin, the full recommended daily intake. It also contains high extract aloe vera and zinc gluconate which have an antimicrobial and nourishing effect on the skin and oligofructose which is a source of soluble fibre extracted from the chicory root.

The combination of these pure and natural nutraceutical ingredients in the PravENAC™  formulation helps reduce the symptoms of acne by reducing the bacteria associated with this debilitating skin condition through its anti-microbial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

How Lactoferrin helps acne

Lactoferrin is produced by a proprietary process that derives a bioactive complex from whey rich in the lactoferrin fraction. Milk’s many bioactive components have specific physiological effects to support a healthy complexion from the inside.

Lactoferrin is present naturally in our exocrine secretions: milk, tears, nasal exudate, bronchial mucus, gastrointestinal fluids and saliva.  A primary function of lactoferrin is scavenging free iron in body fluids and inflamed sites to suppress free radical-mediated damage (much like an antioxidant) and diminish the availability of the element to invading microbes.

Lactoferrin works in two ways. Firstly it inhibits the growth of propionibacterium which is present on most people’s skin and responsible for acne, spots and blemishes, thereby lessening the number of new skin irritants forming. Secondly, its anti-inflammatory properties mean that the size of blemishes is reduced and the blemishes health quicker, resulting in a smoother complexion.
