December is always a busy month – lots of shopping to do, lots of parties to attend and lots of (naughty) foods and drinks to consume. With so much happening, it’s the hardest time of year to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Here we share some expert winter skincare tips on how to keep your health on track and achieve a radiant complexion during the party season.

Increase your intake of good fats

“There is no miracle cure for overindulgence, so just be kind to your body and eat as healthily as possible”, says Esther Cooney, owner of beauty salon The Bard’s Mistress in Stratford-Upon-Avon. “Increase your intake of healthy, complexion-boosting fats and oils by snacking on nuts and seeds rather than eating Quality Streets and mince pies.”

Reveal brighter skin

Make-up artist Jenny Rendall believes that exfoliation is key to reveal a brighter, more radiant complexion. “Exfoliating the skin helps speed up the cell renewal and gets rid of flaky, dull skin. The key is to only exfoliate as much as your skin type requires so if you suffer from acne-prone skin, then don’t do it too often as it may make your skin oilier in the long run.”

Drink more water

“Alcohol doesn’t count towards your daily water intake and actually has a dehydrating effect on the body. Make sure to drink lots of water to keep your skin in great condition”, says beauty therapist Esther Cooney. “Especially your lips will suffer when your hydration levels are low and outside temperatures drop so keep a water bottle and nourishing lip balm close to hand at all time.”

Move as much as possible

Fitness expert Sarah Vrancken feels it’s important to not delay your exercise resolutions until January. “The Christmas holiday period is the perfect time to put your running shoes on and offset some of the calories you’ve consumed.
