A new season is approaching… thank goodness! We are not sad to wave goodbye to the coldness of winter and its ravaging effects on our poor skin. As the weather (slowly) warms up, here are our top tips to prepare your skin for spring:
1. Exfoliate! The drying winter weather can make skin really dry and flaky, so now is a good time to exfoliate your winter skin to reveal a fresh, radiant and smooth layer underneath. Make sure you choose the best exfoliator for your skin type – too harsh an exfoliator could damage sensitive skins.
2. Switch your moisturiser As the temperature starts to rise and central heating is lowered, your skin doesn’t need quite as much help as it has down over the past couple of months. So be careful not to overload your skin with too heavy a moisturiser – if your skin feels greasy after applying your usual moisturiser, switch to a lighter formula.
3. Don’t overload your make up Your skin may be looking a little pasty after the winter months, but try to avoid the urge to use tons of make up, as this can block your pores and cause skin breakouts and spots. Instead, switch your foundation for a tinted moisturiser, slick on some mascara to brighten and widen the eyes and add a touch of crème blush to the cheekbones. This will lift your whole complexion and keep the look fresh.
4. Enjoy this spring’s bright beauty trend! The catwalk looks for spring/summer 2011 were filled with bright colour palettes. Add a bright, unexpected pop of colour to your look by choosing one bold colour and using it on one of your facial features – eyes, lips or cheeks (never all three otherwise you could end up looking like a clown!).
