Sounds pretty obvious, but lack of sleep doesn’t just impact on your ability to concentrate, it can make you gain weight, age your skin and adversely affect your sex life.
During a deep sleep, the body releases human growth hormone. As we age, it helps increase muscle mass, thicken skin and strengthen bones.
If you don’t get sufficient sleep, your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol which, in excess amounts, can break down skin collagen, which is the protein that keeps skin smooth and elastic.
So part of our ‘beauty regime’ to help regenerate our skin definitely needs to include a good night’s sleep, every night to avoid lacklustre skin, fine lines and those pesky dark under-eye circles!
