A word of caution of those of us who reach for a can of sugary drink on a daily basis in order to quench our thirst. A major study has found that drinking just one can of soft drink a day can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes by a fifth.
Soft drinks have previously been linked with weight gain and obesity, a well know trigger for type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes is frequently preceded by an increase in insulin resistance, where the body becomes insensitive to the effects of insulin, resulting in high blood sugar levels.
Soft drinks are quite safe to consume but should be considered a ‘treat’ rather than a beverage choice for daily consumption.
Much better for your skin, weight and overall health – and more thirst quenching – to drink water or water-based products and look out for delicious beverages that aren’t packed full of sugars!
