Whilst trying to answer a customer’s email on whether help: clear skin would be beneficial for a Psoriasis sufferer due to it’s Aloe Vera content, I found a very exciting report about the use of CoQ10 on Psoriasis – an ingredient in our other skin product help: revitalise my skin – and I just had to share! I will get to the Aloe Vera bit later on in this article but yes it can be effective if also taken orally as well applied topically.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is caused by a problem in the immune system that makes the skin cells behave improperly. It isn’t contagious, and it is thought to be genetic. Normal skin cells are formed deep in the layers of skin, and within a month, they rise to the surface and are shed. In psoriasis, skin cells rise to the surface in a matter of days, causing thick, red and inflamed areas of the skin. Psoriasis can last a lifetime, and it can be worsened by stress, infections, skin irritation or dry skin.

How can CoQ10 help?

A study [1] has found that a combination of CoQ10, vitamin E and selenium may benefit skin health, specifically psoriasis.

Psoriasis and Aloe Vera

CoQ10 and vitamin E are antioxidants that promote health in a variety of ways. CoQ10 is beneficial for blood sugar health, fatigue, headaches and has ability to improve energy production in cells. CoQ10 also stimulated the production of essential skin ingredients (such as collagens) to allow the body to regenerate new skin cells. Vitamin E is beneficial for lung health, mental health and heart health. But they have also been shown to possess health benefits when taken together, helping to maintain healthy levels of inflammation.

The Natural Health Resource Institute cites a study that showed marked improvement in psoriasis victims given CoQ10 supplements in conjunction with vitamin E supplements and selenium. Psoriasis affects the joints as well as the skin and results in heart, liver and kidney problems. In the study, patients were administered either 50 mg CoQ10, 75 IU vitamin E and 48 mcg selenium or a placebo. Those receiving the CoQ10-vitamin E-selenium combination showed a 37 to 45 percent improvement in psoriasis symptoms.

How can Aloe Vera help with Psoriasis?

Aloe Vera has been used for years to calm, nourish and regenerate the skin. Its detoxifying properties help to strengthen skin cells, which results in a younger looking, healthy complexion.

In the last 15 years there has been strong evidence due to some well conducted studies indicating that Aloe Vera is a proven natural cure for psoriasis.

Aloe Vera extract has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties whose helpful aspects are further enhanced by its anti-inflammatory properties. The inner leaf gel of the Aloe Vera plant inhibits streptococcus bacteria, making it particularly useful when ingested for detoxification and digestive support. Aloe Vera, with its myriad applications in reducing inflammation, addressing pathogens, and restoring balanced bowel function, may play a crucial role in the prevention of illnesses that may usher in psoriasis outbreaks.

help: clear skin help: revitalise my skinhelp: clear skin & help: revitalise my skin – which one?

We would recommend help: clear skin for its very high content of high extract Aloe Vera – much better than you get in the majority of creams for topical application, supplemented by help: revitalise my skin. help: revitalise my skin contains 60mg of CoEnzyme Q10 – 10mg more than the study patients used and it also contains high extract Aloe Vera.
