Alcohol in toners can increase risk of acne breakouts…and trigger rosacea

May 13, 2013 by Works with Water

Are you the one in five women whose beauty regime still involves the daily use of toner?  Then you could be doing more damage to your skin than you realise as many toners include harsh ingredients such as alcohol, which can dry out skin, and parabens which have been shown to cause allergic reactions.

If you use toner regularly and find your skin is prone to acne breakouts, rosacea or is becoming unusually sensitive, it could be that your toner is contributing to your skin inflammation and irritation.

Whilst there are toners available containing natural skin calming and nourishing ingredients such as aloe vera and plant oil extracts, a twice-daily cleansing splash of cold water before moisturising works well to tighten pores and stimulate circulation – and it’s kind to your sensitive skin.
