7 Easy Winter Skincare & Beauty Hacks

Crisp Winter days can give you a gorgeous rosy glow to the cheeks.  However, changes in temperature as we move from indoor central heating to harsh, windy outdoors can also play havoc with your complexion, with severe consequences for your skin if you suffer from acne, eczema or dry skin. To prevent your skin drying out or your eczema and acne  flaring-up this winter, we have a few skin loving  tips and remedies to keep your skin  smooth, nourished and spot-free.

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
It’s easy to remember to moisturise during the summer months when we’re baring our limbs to the sun.  Not quite so easy when we’re cuddled up in woollies!  However your skin needs to be nourished and moisturised just as much during Winter months. The most effective time to moisturise is after you have taken a shower. Your pores are open allowing it to seal the dampness into the skin. Keep a bottle of your favourite moisturiser next to your bathtub or shower so that you don’t forget!  If you suffer from spots, acne, eczema or psoriasis then do be careful that the ingredients in your favourite skincare products don’t aggravate your skin.  If you want more information on how to prevent spots, check it out!


Sunscreen
Just because it’s winter, don’t think that the sun isn’t damaging to your skin. It can cause the same amount of damage as it does in the summer.  So cover up with sunscreen or apply a layer of zinc oxide to exposed areas to be extra safe if you’re planning to be outdoors for any length of time.

DIY lip scrub

The severe weather in the winter can leave us with dry, flaky lips. A good lip scrub can ensure you’re lips are kissably smooth…. and you can totally do this at home.  A simple but effective lip scrub consists of just brown sugar and honey giving you smooth, supple lips ready for a signature red lip this season.
Oatmeal baths to soothe irritated skin
The cold winter winds and dry heat inside can really take their toll on our delicate skin. A homemade oatmeal bath is extremely relaxing whilst a great skincare solution to tackle itchy, irritated skin. It is also a great go-to remedy during pregnancies to soothe stretched and stressed skin.

Drink enough water
We cannot stress the importance of drinking enough water. The amount you consume can really make a difference in the way your skin look. We tend to turn to hot beverages such as hot chocolate and tea in the winter, but it is essential that you give your skin the hydration it needs. Try and have some warm water with lemon, both refreshing and hydrating at the same time! If you suffer from spots or are acne-prone, then this is also the perfect way to drink help: clear skin.  Just mix a sachet daily into your hot lemon drink and your skin will soon see the difference.

Avoid chemical-laden detergents and irritating fabrics
