40 days of healthier looking skin: Giving up spots and blemishes for Lent

February 20, 2015 by Works with Water

Lent is a time for implementing positive changes into your daily routine for 40 days and if you want an easy and realistic target for this period then why not try to arm your body with the right tools to detoxify your skin?

Don’t put up with acne damaging your body and confidence, follow these simple steps to healthier looking skin and better health.

Sleep Well

Never doubt the refreshing power of a good night’s sleep. Making sure you get the best possible bedtime ritual in motion will not only improve the quality of your skin but will also leave you feeling energised to carry out the tasks of the day ahead. Having at least eight hours of sleep per night allows time for your body to repair its damaged skin cells, reducing the chances of acne and other imperfections.

If you want to improve the quality of your sleep, ensure that your bedroom has good air circulation and that it’s the right temperature. You don’t want it to be too hot or too cold. It’s also recommended not to spend hours gazing into a computer or television screen immediately before bed as this will fool the brain into thinking that it is still daytime. Replace your laptop with a book and you’re more likely to nod off with ease. Finally, have a warm bath and make sure that you’re not rubbing your face in dirty sheets by changing your sleeping position to lying on your back, which leads us to the next step…

Clean Up

If you’re prone to oily skin then there’s nothing worse than getting dirt and bacteria trapped in your pores. If your bed sheets have gone two weeks without a wash then there’s an increased risk of bacteria sneaking its way into your skin to cause irritation and spots. Make sure to clean your face when you wake up and before going to bed to remove any dirt, grime or dead cells thriving on your skin throughout the daylight and night-time hours. Also make sure to clean your razor before and after every use, otherwise you could be exposing yourself to the dirt and bacteria that has gathered on it while it’s been lying around. Clothes also need to be clean! Having them rubbing against your skin all day long spreads dirt and bacteria they have collected throughout the day.

Get Healthy

Avoiding unhealthy foods and beginning a diet and exercise plan has numerous benefits, one of which is healthier skin. If you kick the junk out of your internals you’ll kick it off your external appearance too. Avoid refined carbohydrates and sugars, such as fizzy drinks and pastries, which cause acne breakouts and replace them with foods high in vitamin E and C like dark berries, nuts, avocado and green tea which boosts the skin’s vitality and your immune system.

You should also keep yourself hydrated, especially after and during exercise. Drinking plenty of water will moisturise your skin naturally, increase your metabolic rate and help flush out any toxins in your system. It is also recommended to take a multivitamin containing iron, as well as reinforcing this with the natural acne-fighting supplement help: clear skin MEN twice a day, which can be added to water or any other non-carbonated drink or soft food such as yoghurt without affecting the taste, giving your skin everything it needs to combat spots and other impurities.
